For Skulptur. Projekte in Münster 1997 Reinhard Mucha had initially intended to revive a project proposal he had been unable to implement at the previous exhibition in 1987. In this concept he intended to “duplicate” an existing glass vitrine set in a reinforced concrete surround that was standing in front of the then Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte by building an identical copy in which Mucha would display a presentation of his own for the duration of the exhibition.1 For structural reasons, however, this project could not be carried out. Mucha therefore decided upon an alternative, ephemeral form of work: he visited eight classes from a range of grades at various schools around Münster in order to talk to the students about his personal way of working as an artist, an approach that consists of analysing the context of art and the conditions under which art is produced, presented and perceived.

With Mucha’s contribution (1997) Nach vorne, his conceptual approach shifted from physically perceptible art objects to social interaction. The eight class photos, staged for the catalogue by the students themselves, thus form the only documents of this artistic intervention.2
